MSH (Maison des Sciences de l'Homme) is located in Seine Saint Denis, a district created in 1968. If the department of Seine-Saint-Denis is very recent, the territory has always been occupied by man, especially in the Gallo-Roman and medieval times.

During the Middle Ages, the Seine-Saint-Denis is both an economic center with the fair Lendit and spiritual with the abbey of Saint-Denis.
