CEFIPRA PROWIS program
by Pascal Weil 10 Sep '26

10 Sep '26

Hello, This mail is to draw your attention to the CEFIPRA PROWIS programs (Program Women in Science, https://www.cefipra.org/PgmMF.aspx?p=PR) As the name indicates, it is reserved to female applicants, and it comes every year in two flavors: - longish visits (up to 5 or 6 months) by a PhD student from India (resp. France) to a research group in France (resp. India) - short visits (2 weeks) by a researcher already holding a PhD (postdoc, faculty) from one country, going to the other. Having been in a position to observe the program, I note that - There are many applications from India, but not many from the 'ReLaX community'. Because of the overall high number of applications, success is far from guaranteed, but I think it is worth trying. - The number of scholarships awarded to 'Mathematical and Computational Sciences' is roughly proportional to the number of applications: this is a reason to encourage more applications! - There are very few applications from France, even though CEFIPRA reserves as many slots FR--> IN as it does IN-->FR. As a result, the chances of success there are higher. If you know women in France who may be interested in one or the other flavor of the program, please encourage them to apply at the next call! In the past applications have been due in December, and decisions have been made public in September or October of the following year. Also, CEFIPRA wants PhD student awardees to be able to benefit from the visit for their PhD project: as a result they tend to disallow applications from students in their last year. Of course, the particulars of the call must be verified on the CEFIPRA site, not in this email! updating ReLaX's report
by Pascal Weil 25 May '26

25 May '26

Dear Friends of ReLaX, I am writing to ask for your contributions to update the ReLaX website and report (to our funding institutions). - PhDs. Please give me some details on Indian PhD students in France or jointly directed PhD students in France and India. See https://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/people/jointly-directed-phds/ <seehttps://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/people/jointly-directed-phds/> to see what I already know. Send me info on new students, and on what happened to old ones (defended, where they are now, etc) - Visits, from France to India or India to France, faculty, post-docs, PhD students. See https://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/people/short-term/ for what I already know. Imitate the format of the 2025 entries. - Internships: See https://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/people/internships/ for what I already know, and for models about text descriptions. Please help me complete the missing information. - Publications: See https://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/publications/ for the current state of my information. Please send me the missing elements. Pay attention, in particular, to the publications that are listed 'submitted' and are now 'to appear', or 'to appear' but have now appeared. If you supervise(d) an intern, PhD student, postdoc, please include their ReLaX publications as well (they don't receive this message). The rules of the Publication game are that I would like to have your publication details if (a) these publications relate to a period when you were posted (affecté) to ReLaX [that's very few people, from France] OR (b) you are an Indian member of ReLaX OR (c) they are cosigned by France- and India-based authors (and possibly more locations, of course) OR (d) they result from Indo-French interactions (visits to India or to France, interactions around an internship, etc). (All this interpreted liberally.) It is best if these publications mention ReLaX in the acknowledgments (or in the affiliation in Cases (a) and (b)) but not mandatory. If they don't, this is a hint for your next relevant publications. Please explore the other tabs on the website https://relax.lmf.cnrs.fr/ and tell me what you think should be there and isn't. Thank you for your help! Fwd: [insmi.dispositifs.international] AAP MITI Thèses internationales dans les IRL - MITI Call for International PhDs in the IRLs
by Pascal Weil 16 Mar '26

16 Mar '26

Dear All, Another great opportunity for ReLaX. You will see the details below (in French and, below, in English). Roughly: - call for international PhD fellowships provided by CNRS - start of the fellowship: September 2026 (duration: 3 yrs) - the PhD student would be registered in France, with an adviser in a lab in France - a connection with an IRL (ReLaX in our case!) is required, see explanation of what that means in the email below - this connection certainly requires discussing the project with the Direction of ReLaX The email below comes from the Mathematics Division of CNRS (INSMI), and is written in terms of projects involving maths labs in France. But the call originates from CNRS itself and concerns all the Divisions of CNRS, including the Computer Science Division (INS2I). I just don't yet have the details for INS2I projects (the address where to send the applications). I will pass it on to you as soon as I get it. In the meantime, just assume that the timeline is exactly the same as for Maths, and discuss your project with the Direction of ReLaX. ReLaX has had some success with this call in the past, so it's definitely worth the effort to apply. With best regards, Pascal PS - If you are in India and don't know whether your project falls in Maths or in CS, the decision is 'technical': whether the lab in France is under INS2I (CS) or INSMI (maths) > Début du message réexpédié : > > De: MONTIBELLER Céline <celine.montibeller(a)cnrs.fr> > Objet: [insmi.dispositifs.international] AAP MITI Thèses internationales dans les IRL - MITI Call for International PhDs in the IRLs > Date: 2 mars 2026 à 20:13:54 UTC+7 > À: "insmi.dispositifs.international(a)listes.math.cnrs.fr" <insmi.dispositifs.international(a)listes.math.cnrs.fr> > Cc: INSMI International <insmi.international(a)cnrs.fr>, BOSCAIN Ugo Vittorio <ugo-vittorio.boscain(a)cnrs.fr> > Répondre à: <insmi.international(a)cnrs.fr> > > (message translated in English below) > > Objet : AAP MITI Thèses internationales dans les IRL > > Chères toutes, chers tous, > > Je vous écris en tant que relai vers les collègues d’un AAP pour des bourses de thèse, dites « Thèses internationales », que nous venons de recevoir. > > Comme chaque année, nous allons peut-être pouvoir bénéficier du financement d’un petit nombre de thèses CNRS coordonnées par la MITI (Mission pour les initiatives transverses et interdisciplinaires), débutant en septembre 2026 pour 3 ans et en lien avec les IRL. India-France (ANR-DST) call for proposals in Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence
by Pascal Weil 03 Mar '26

03 Mar '26

Dear All, I wrote to you about 4 weeks ago about an upcoming DST-ANR call for projects joining AI and Applied Mathematics. The call is not officially open. Full details below (a link to the ANR and another to the DST), but to summarize: - the deadline is April 20, 2026; - many research topics represented in this mailing list can actually find an anchoring in this call for project; - according to the call for projects (if I understand it correctly), it is not a call for projects on uses of AI. I strongly encourage you to think about this call (which may not be repeated a 2nd year), contact your favorite Indian/French partners, and come up with a great project! With best regards, Pascal ====================== Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to inform you that the French National Research Agency (ANR), France and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India has launched an Franco-Indian call for joint research and innovation project proposals in "Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence” 2026. Pre-announcement: India-France (ANR-DST) call for proposals in Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence
by Pascal Weil 05 Feb '26

05 Feb '26

Dear All, The following India-France call for projects may be of interest to some of you. It is currently only "announced", the detailed call (with keywords describing its scientific perimeter) should arrive this month or in March. Currently, it stands (as the mail below indicates) as "to strengthen Indo-French cooperation on topics combining Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence in the service of Applied Mathematics, but also Mathematics as science for Artificial Intelligence". If you feel that you have partners in the other country with whom you could submit a project to this call, start a conversation :-) With best regards, Pascal https://dst.gov.in/news/pre-announcement%3A-india-france-call-for-proposals… During the second meeting of the India France Joint Committee for Science and Technology held in Delhi, it was agreed that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India and the French National Research Agency (ANR) agreed to launch new calls for co-funded projects in order to continue and intensify scientific cooperation between India and France. Following the first edition dedicated to "Green Hydrogen Innovations for Sustainable Energy Solutions", the two organisations will launch, between February and March 2026, a second call for proposals in applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. Through a bilateral funding, both organizations seek to fund innovative binational projects that demonstrate strong synergy between the teams in both countries and genuine integration of joint work. The partners will form a joint research team combining complementary skills within the framework of a joint project. The aim of this India-France call for proposals is to strengthen Indo-French cooperation on topics combining Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence in the service of Applied Mathematics, but also Mathematics as science for Artificial Intelligence. The call for proposals will specify the priority areas. Mark the date!! "Focus Programme on Formal Methods and Artificial Intelligence", February 2 - 6 (2026)
by Pascal Weil 11 Nov '25

11 Nov '25

Dear All, ReLaX and the Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) will organize a "Focus Programme on Formal Methods and Artificial Intelligence", from 2nd to 6th February 2026, at CMI. The aim is to provide PhD students specializing in Formal Methods and related areas with a gentle introduction to the interactions between Formal Methods and AI, and the challenges that arise at this interface. The detailed programme is still under construction. The intended audience is PhD students; postdocs and advanced MSc students are also welcome. There will be no registration fee. Unfortunately, our budget does not allow us to provide financial support to participants from India outside CMI. Participants from France are expected to find funding with their respective institutions. Limited partial support through ReLaX may be available, in particular for local expenses — please contact ReLaX (pascal.weil(a)cnrs.fr <mailto:pascal.weil@cnrs.fr>) for details. This is an early notice, please mark the dates. If PhD students around you are interested, please write to Srivathsan (sri(a)cmi.ac.in <mailto:sri@cmi.ac.in>) and Dietmar (dwb(a)lmf.cnrs.fr <mailto:dwb@lmf.cnrs.fr>) — or have your students contact them directly.
