GdT lundi

Hi! Since it's the holidays for undergrad students next week, there will be fewer people on campus. For those that will be around, I would like to give (and record) the intro to locale theory I proposed at the start of the semester. Provisionally, I'll give this in Y407 (salle tour Eiffel) at 13:30. After the holidays, Christian will give the promised intro to algebraic K-theory. The time may be moved to accommodate various AG that will be happening on that day. See you on Monday, Morgan

GdT demain et lundi prochain
by Groupe de travail catégories 19 Oct '26

19 Oct '26

Bonjour! A reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday), Benno van den Berg is visiting to talk about algebraic weak factorisation systems. Several people have asked me to make the meeting time later, on the one hand to participate in a Conseil Administrative, on the other to participate for longer in an AG (which will start at 12 o'clock in Amphi III). So we will instead start at 2pm. I have booked a seminar room on the 4th floor of the MathSTIC building, but there isn't a lot of board space. I'll try to book B107. Next Monday, during the undergraduate students' week of holidays, Christian will finally tell us about algebraic K-theory at the usual time. I'll confirm the room later in the week. Best, Morgan

Visite de Benno van den Berg
by Groupe de travail catégories 15 Oct '26

15 Oct '26

Hi everyone, There has been a plan in place for some weeks of Benno van den Berg visiting USPN while he is visiting Paris next week. We have selected the unusual time of 1pm on Tuesday 20/10; see the title and abstract below. Provisionally I have booked a room on the 4th floor of the MathSTIC building for this purpose; please call or text me on 0635326197 if you need help getting into the university or the building. _It is of course possible that we will have to cancel this at short notice_, either because the university is completely closed or because only staff will be allowed inside. Since the president of the university doesn't tend to officially decide these things until the evening before, I'll send another message on Monday based on that. Otherwise, see you there. Best wishes, Morgan ---- Title: Algebraic weak factorisation systems Abstract: Weak factorisation systems (WFSs) play an important role in abstract homotopy theory; in particular, Quillen model structures consist of two WFSs that interact in a good way. A WFS on a category consists of two classes maps, let's call them left and right maps, such that any map factors as a left map followed by a right map and the two classes determine each other through lifting properties. Algebraic weak factorisation systems (AWFSs, due to Grandis, Tholen and Garner) are a more explicit version of these WFSs in that both the factorisation and the lifts are part of the structure of a WFS; in particular, the property of being a left (or right) map is replaced by a notion of having the structure of a left (or right) map. Every AWFS determines a WFS, but at the same time there are also situations that can be seen as instances of an AWFS, but not as a WFS. Much of the recent interest in AWFSs comes from homotopy type theory, as many of the recent attempts to give a constructive semantics for homotopy type theory have made heavy use of the theory of AWFs. In this talk I will gave an overview of the theory of AWFs, stressing the relation with double categories. I will also discuss joint work with Lingyuan Ye, John Bourke and Ellie Lohman on monoidal AWFSs and distributive laws for AWFSs.

GdT demain??
by Groupe de travail catégories 11 Oct '26

11 Oct '26

Hi, The university is closed to students again tomorrow. In principle we could have a GdT; in particular, Christian could give his introduction to algebraic K-theory that was cancelled last week. However, I will be participating in the AG at 11am and the planned action at 2pm, which will mean I cannot join (this will make it difficult to set up the BBB to record). I'll let Christian say in the morning whether he wants to go ahead with the talk and if so in which room. Best wishes, Morgan

Hi, In the end Christian says that he can't do a later time today. Please do come and join the AG if you can. To get in, you have to come to the parking entrance. If you don't have a card, give me a call at 0635326197 when you arrive. I'll come to get you through the security. Best wishes, Morgan

Re: [GdT Categories] [Sud.tous] Mobilisation : AG lundi 5 midi, grève et manifestation mardi 6 (fwd)

Hi, Sorry to message when it's already the weekend. I was in the AG today relating to the message I attach below. Since then, the president of the university has stated that the situation is too uncertain, and will announce the opening or continued closure of the university on Sunday evening. Personally, I think it is more important to participate in the discussions amongst the university staff about how to react to the evolving situation than to push ahead with the seminar. I have already received at least one opinion on this topic, but everyone who would be coming to the GdT on Monday is concerned. If you see this and are able to reply, please choose an option: A) You want to attend the AG that is planned for Monday at 12h30, B) You want the talk (Christian's introduction to Algebraic K-Theory) to go ahead (12h45 - 14h) C) You won't attend either way. You are welcome to add conditions to any of these options. I will send a message on Sunday evening once we've heard from you and the university president has announced whether the university will open. > _______________________________________________ > Sud.tous mailing list > Sud.tous(a)listes.univ-paris13.fr > https://listes.univ-paris13.fr/mailman/listinfo/sud.tous
