Bonjour, ce mardi 12 octobre 2021 à 14h00 en B107 (& visioconférence), nous recevrons Imre Bárány qui nous parlera de : Cells in the box and a hyperplane Résumé : It is well known that a line can intersect at most 2n−1 cells of the n×n chessboard. What happens in higher dimensions: how many cells of the d-dimensional [0,n]^d box can a hyperplane intersect? We determine this number asymptotically. We also prove the integer analogue of the following fact. If K,L are convex bodies in R^d and K⊂L, then the surface area K is smaller than that of L. Joint work with Peter Frankl. Salut, Ce mardi 19 novembre 2019 à 14h00 en B107, Florent Hivert nous parlera de : Expérimentations sur le calcul hautes performances en combinatoire Résumé : In this talk, I will report on several experiments around large scale enumerations in enumerative and algebraic combinatorics. I'll describe a methodology used to achieve large speedups in several enumeration problems. Indeed, in many combinatorial structures (permutations, partitions, monomials, young tableaux), the data can be encoded as a small sequence of small integers that can often efficiently be handled by a creative use of processor vector instructions. Through the challenging example of numerical monoids, I will then report on how Cilkplus allows for a extremely fast parallelization of the enumeration. Indeed, we have been able to enumerate sets with more that 10^15 elements on a single multicore machine. En collaboration avec Jean Fromentin. À tout de suite, Thierry

Bonjour, ce mardi 04 juin 2019 à 14h00 en B107, Antonio Jimenez Pastor nous parlera de : A Computable Extension for Holonomic Functions: DD-Finite Functions Résumé : D-finite functions is a well known class of functions. They are defined via a linear differential equation with polynomial coefficients and we can find many examples in elementary functions (exp(x), sin(x)), combinatorial generating functions (all P-recursive sequence have a D-finite generating function) and many other special functions. In this talk we will see a natural extension to this class: the DD-finite (and, more generically, Dn-finite) functions. These functions are defined using a linear differential equation with D-finite coefficients. We will described the structural properties known for this larger class of functions. Gérard H. E. Duchamp parlera de : "Towards a Picard-Vessiot theory of noncommutative differential equations II : variations around a theorem by M. Deneufchâtel". Thierry

Salut, ATTENTION, notez l'horaire inhabituel (15h30).

Cet après-midi, à 14h00 en B107, le même Gleb Koshevoy nous parlera de : Cluster relations among Schur functions and a positivity conjecture Résumé : Cluster algebras, invented by Sergey Fomin and Andrei Zelevinsky around 2000, are commutative algebras whose generators and relations are constructed in a recursive manner. Due to cluster recursion we obtain Laurent polynomials in the initial variables, so-called Laurent phenomenon of cluster algebras. The coordinate ring of base affine space C[N_-\SL_n] plays an important role in representation theory and is endowed with a cluster algebra structure. We show that under specialization of minors to Schur functions, Laurent polynomials of this cluster algebra turn into 'homogeneous' sums of Schur function. A positivity conjecture says that these sums have positive coefficients. This conjecture is true for finite cluster subalgebras. Bonne journée, Thierry

Bonjour, ce mardi 20 mars 2018 à 10h30 en B107, Sergey Dovgal nous parlera de : Pólya enumeration theorem from scratch III Résumé : I am going to talk about very popular combinatorial connection between ordinary and exponential generating functions which is called cycle index function. I am going to define the combinatorial species according to the book "Theory of Species" by Bergeron, Labelle, Leroux, and present their beautiful proof of the cycle index composition theorem. The proof relies on the theory of symmetric functions in infinitely many variables. This proof is a beautiful example of Grothendieck's concept: in order to prove something particular, one should make a more general statement and prove it. L'après-midi, à 14h00 en B107, Antoine Deza nous parlera de : On lattice polytopes, convex matroid optimization, and degree sequences of hypergraphs Résumé : We introduce a family of polytopes, called primitive zonotopes, which can be seen as a generalization of the permutahedron of type Bd. We discuss connections to the largest diameter of lattice polytopes and to the computational complexity of multicriteria matroid optimization. Complexity results and open questions are also presented. In particular, we answer a question raised in 1986 by Colbourn, Kocay, and Stinson by showing that deciding whether a given sequence is the degree sequence of a 3-hypergraph is computationally prohibitive. Based on joint works with Asaf Levin (Technion), George Manoussakis (Paris Sud), Shmuel Onn (Technion). À demain, Thierry
