The project is a young researchers project funded by the French National Research Agency. It aims to understand from a theoretical viewpoint, namely in terms of tilings, the structure and the growth of quasicrystals, which are non-periodic but ordered materials discovered in 1982 (Chemistry Nobel prize in 2011). Tilings are at the crossroad of probability theory, dynamical systems, computability and combinatorics. They form an active research domain of theoretical computer science and mathematics (see, e.g., the results on random tilings obtained by the Fields medalist Andrei Okounkov).
